Work Experience

The Goldfields Oasis also offers the opportunity for work experience students to discover what it is like to work close to the fitness industry in a huge Recreation Centre.

A suitable applicant for work experience is:

  • An outgoing student
  • Aged 16 and over
  • Duration of 1 school term only

Training Courses

Although the Oasis does not run or hold these courses we do facilitate them. We can help you get booked in.

About Our Training Courses

The Goldfields Oasis Recreation Centre helps to run regular professional development courses to ensure our staff receive the most up-to-date training to enhance the level of service we can provide.

All courses are available for anyone, not just staff, so please get in touch if you’re interested.

Bronze Medallion

The Bronze Medallion training program will provide you with the skills and knowledge to react appropriately in a number of different water emergency situations. It is a personal achievement award that recognises your ability to perform water-based rescues in a safe and efficient manner.

Why you should participate in this training:

  • The WA Police Service recognises the Bronze Medallion qualification as highly desirable for employment
  • Bronze Medallion holders are eligible to complete the Pool Lifeguard Award (see below)

Pool Lifeguard

Do you want to earn top dollars and have fun? Have you thought about being a pool lifeguard?

The Pool Lifeguard Award, conducted by Royal Life Saving WA, is an entry-level qualification that can lead to an exciting career in the aquatic recreation industry.

The current requirement to be a pool lifeguard in a public swimming pool is:

  • Pool Lifeguard Award
  • Senior First Aid Certificate

The Pool Lifeguard Award is recognised throughout Australia, as well as many other countries.

AUSTSWIM

Get paid to teach swimming! A swimming and water safety instructor can be an enjoyable and rewarding career.

The AUSTSWIM course is a nationally-recognised program that includes a resuscitation award which is required to work in the industry.

This training will enable you to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to teach swimming and water safety classes and obtain the AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Award.
